ARmor Rock, Homer, Alaska

About this PROJECT

In 2013, Alaska Marine Excavation was awarded the Homer Spit Trail Shore Protection Project for the City of Homer. The project required excavation and on-site disposal of approximately 2,500 CY of beach material as well as producing, barging and placement of approximately 10,000 CY of armor rock and filter stone for erosion protection. Alaska Marine acquired the proper State and Borough permits for the project and completed it on time and with favorable results.
Alaska Marine's work successfully maintained beach erosion control on the Homer Spit. The project pivoted on the blasting, sorting and transportation of armor rock to the barge loading area in Seldovia. Alaska Marine mobilized equipment and material via a time chartered barge. Successful tug and barging operations were crucial in terms of maneuvering assets quickly and efficiently. Highly trained personnel placed the rock.
